300
« on: March 11, 2007, 12:57:41 AM »

We went to see this tonight. All in all, its a pretty good movie! A really accurate portrayal of the battle of the 300 Spartans against the Persian army. With cameos by Gollum, Sloth, Lobster Boy & Goat Man (blink and you'll miss them) and Rupaul as Xerxes, I rate this movie a 10 out of 10! Xerxes, bedecked in gold peircings reminicent of this lady:

and makeup that looked like it could've been done by Boy George,    heads up an army composed of Ringling Brothers rejects and extras from Todd Browning's Freaks, along with orcs taken straight from Lord of the Rings and exaggerated CGI animals. There's a very memorable scene where Gollum goes to Xerxes' lair which is actually the creature canteena from Star Wars

The Spartan army, on the other hand is composed of men who, despite the technological disadvantage of the age, seemed to have spent their entire lives in the gym developing abs and pecs harder than the metal their sheilds are made of.

Another observation: Sparta is very cold-- see the movie and you'll see what I mean.

All kidding aside, It was a pretty good movie, I recommend it and will probably see it again.

I definitely want to see this movie.  I didn't realize there were all those different creature look-a-likes in it.  Pretty cool.

I really did like it, I'd see it again. The cinematography is similar to Sin City- the color and stuff. Plus they show a trailer for Spiderman 3 before it.

Waiting for my flight last night, caught some movie review on CNN from some lady who apparently reviews for whatever magazine.. who knows..

Anyway she was really stupid. "It's like a comic book" and basically it's just a bunch of fighting, blood, blah blah. No crap, moron. She followed it with some 10/10 review of some documentary/love/life lesson movie so I just had to laugh it off. Going to see it this week sometime. Looks really cool.

haha! Did she not know it was an adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel and not necessarily true to history? I suppose she hated Sin City too. Blah. I liked it.

I liked Sin City a lot except for the downer ending.

300 looks cool, but there is also some really weird looking stuff in the previews too.

Yep - her review sounded like she went in expecting "You've Got Mail" or something and didn't understand the context of 300 in the least.

Haha what an idiot. I usually don't take the opinions of movie critics when deciding to go see a movie. The only opinion I care about when I go see a movie is my own.

I finally saw this last night and it was pretty friggin cool.  I wanna be a Spatan.  The hunch back guy reminded me of Big Joe.  "I want a uniform"

I liked Transformers a lot more.  This was a cool movie but had way too much hype.

Saw this one this weekend too...
A little over dramatic and boring at times but the action sequences were spot on.  I really dig the history behind this epic battle and as said above, it probably isn't historically accurate but it was still a decent movie.

Really liked the preview for that stardust movie, I'm into those cheesy fantasy movies, but haven't seen any harry potters or the first 2 LOTR...This will probably look and sound amazing in 1080p with 5.1 blaring.

I was surprised at slow it was too in the beginning.

Theres a special on the HD-DVD where there is a PiP that shows the actors in front of a blue-screen instead of the CGI background.  REALLY strange...

LOTR needs to get its ass to hi-def already!

Danny, me and Cathy watched it Friday.  It was a good movie, but certainly over-hyped.  Seemed short too.  Watching the blue screen (what the actors really saw) in the extra features really makes a statement to how good these guys could act.
