blah, as much as I love Torii, he really was full of shit in this contract stuff. Yesterday he was quoted as saying that NOTHING was going to happen until next week because he didn't want any of this on his mind during Thanksgiving. I'm sure he'll be a good player for the Angel's for a couple of years, then when he's 35 and hitting .260 with 15 HR's, we'll realize why the Twins were only offering him 3 years. It's all about the money, isn't it Torii?
They definitely do need to get somebody to fill his spot though, but knowing them, they won't.
Gee, where would I want to play... in sunny California, where the organization actually SPENDS money to try to win.... or in shitty Minnesota with a tightass ballclub that won't pay me as much? Sure is tough. You can shout loyalty all you want, but Pete, if I offer you a 20% raise, are you going to come to my company, especially when the surroundings are better? I bet you would. I don't care that these guys are making millions, it's a busines and you want to be compensated for the player you are. If you're looking around the majors and not making what your fellow peers are, well that's not fair. Oh, and then you look out your window and it's cold as fock too! Congrats Torii, and best of luck to you! I don't think he's worth 18 million either, btw. He had a great year, but this is not truly that good. Andruw did the same thing... had a great year, but then reverted back... as I'm sure Torii will too. Won't matter anyway, the Twins lack don't want to win, they want to be competitive enough to get some fans and still keep a low payroll and make money. Division titles are just gravy. I doubt that hunter lives in MN during the off season anyways, so the cold isnt a factor.

While it is disappointing to see him go, I understand. The Twins haven't done a whole lot over the last couple of years to make me or anyone else believe that they really do want to win. If they did, they be more aggressive in getting people or in making moves. That being said, I also understand where they are coming from. The Dome sucks for revenue and they don't have the clout that other teams do when it comes to signing free agents and making trades. It will be interesting to see if they do something this off-season to improve the team. I would say that they have a lot of work to do, especially with Hunter gone.

And Santana is as good as gone too but the Twins are too stupid to actually get something for him.

I don't blame the Twins (yet), because of that shithole of a stadium they play in. Their payroll is middle of the pack, so harp on the other 10 teams that are under them in payroll. I bet all of them have nicer stadiums, too.

The Twins just traded for Delmon Young. Holy cow... they DO have brains.... oh, and yeah... this guy will be a better player than Torii Hunter is or ever was. In fact, he'll be better than Hunter NEXT year already. What a great trade!

I dunno about this one. Garza had the potential to be a total stud of a pitcher. Bartlett, meh, he was Steve Lombardozzi reincarnated, but he was ok I guess. I would rather they traded Bonser, but at the same time, Garza was mouthing off last year so maybe its good riddance?
Delmon Young though? Is he really that good? His numbers are rather....lackluster.

Delmon Young was a rookie last year. he is an INCREDIBLY talented player... think Ken Griffey Jr.... but not quite as much power. He's fast, has a great arm, is good in the field, hits for average and gets men in. Very VERY talented player. Look at last year's stats... for a rookie... and it's called disappointing. When's the last time a rookie hit .288 and had 93 RBIs and it was disappointing? Yeah.... have no fear Pete, he can play. Minor league numbers... http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/Y/delmon-young.shtml

I guess with him being stuck in Tampa Bay (maybe the only stadium worse than the 'dome?) he didn't get much attention. It will be cool seeing him play and mature.

It's too bad money grubber Hunter didn't stick around for a year or two, he'd be a good mentor. I'm going to buy my tickets the day they go on sale for opening day, so I can boo Torii

While I question trading Garza, you have to give value to get it and it sounds like that is exactly what the Twins did. Delmon Young is exactly that: young. If he can hit .288 with 13 HR's and 90+ RBI's in that lineup, I bet he can do just as good in the Twins lineup and at the age of 22, I am sure he will improve on those numbers as he goes. Ten years younger than Torii and probably 10 million a year cheaper if not more. I am also curious about the trading of Bartlett, but it sounds like this Harris guy played most of the games for the Rays last year at SS and played well. Hopefully, this is one of several moves and the Twins are back in the thick of things again next year.
