Canceled my Netflix after not watching a movie for like 3 months and then got on a movie kick So I downloaded Deja Vu w/ Denzel the other day and then Blood Diamond w/ Leo last night from Xbox Live. Both 720p and both looked awesome. Anyway 2 thumbs up on both! If you watch Deja Vu let me know, there was probably some stuff you missed I read online. Anyone else watch anything good lately? I know Danny said Derailed was good.

I'll have to check deja vu out. Its somewhere on my Netflix queue.
So...I just watched slither...don't ever watch that.
I watched Reign of Fire last week. Okay, go into it realizing you're about to watch a movie where dragons basically lead to the end of the world (in a real-life setting) and...its a pretty damn cool movie. Besides, Batman is in it!
I really did like Derailed a lot. Since you liked firewall, I can almost guarantee you'll like this.

De ja Vu is a good flick.
**** SPOILER DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN **** Did you get this yourself, I didn't think of it or realize it till I read it on yahoo movies... I conjecture there were a minimum 2 times Denzel went back before the time we saw! (minimum 3 total!)
First Time around: The detective doesnt die because he is on vacation and doesnt get a note changing his plans. The girl doesnt die because the killer uses his first vehicle because the detective doesnt damage it. The girl doesnt call the ATF leaving a message for Denzel. The boat blows up. The FBI brings Denzel in for help. A note is sent back in time and is picked up by Denzels partner. This changes the course of history. Instead of the detective being on vacation he follows the lead and is shot and later killed. He damages the truck before he dies which causes the killer to have to get a new vehicle, thus he girl is now brought into the picture since she is the owner of the other vehicle. Seeing what he has done, Denzel goes back in time to try and save the girl and the victims. (sorry partner, you are screwed)
Denzel arrives in the past at a hospital, is revived, and rushes to the killers abode. He saves the girl from the explosion at the killers place, she loses her earring, and they go back to her place to fix his wounds. They dress the wounds, he get his finger prints all over the house, she calls the ATF leaving a message for him, and Denzel leaves her at her house. The magnetic letters on her fridge are mixed up. THIS IS THE TRICKY PART!!!! For Denzel to send a message to his future self who will be investigating the house after the body turns up he would have to think the girl still dies! He couldnt possibly think that yet because he just saved her from the bad guy! There is absolutely zero reason to send a message to his future self saying you can save her if he just did! Denzel leaves the girl at her home to go save the boat.
The killer finds the girl at her house, kills her, and still defuses Denzels attempt to save the day before he ever makes it to the boat!
Second Time around: So, the boat still blows up and the FBI again get Denzel to help their cause. They once again send the letter back it once again gets the partner killed, and Denzel once again goes back. This time when Denzel goes back he realizes HE HAS ALREADY BEEN HERE and must have failed! This give him motive to change the letters on the fridge this time to say you can save her for a clue to his future self that it is possible to save her (in case he fails again!). We know this isnt the time he saves her, because the letters were changed on the fridge when Denzel investigated her death! For them to be there he had to have changed them... We know they were their before she died in the version we saw! This time around she must still end up dead. The killer still watches from the bridge, meaning he didnt spot the bronco at the dock, and he didnt go back on the boat! This tells me he must have killed the girl and gotten to Denzel before he got to the boat!
Third Time around! The Boat BLOWS UP as the start of the movie!!! We see this time around on the big screen.
The FGI ONCE AGAIN gets Denzel to help their cause Denzel investigates the house and finds bloody rags AND the letters on the fridge you can save her. They once again send the letter back, it again gets his partner killed. They use the time window to id and capture the killer after the fact. Denzel investigates the killer and even the killer has a sense that he cannot be stopped! The killer has a Dj vu sense because he has done this before and knows he cant be stopped. Denzel again goes back in time. This time around when he saves the girl, goes to the house, and arranges the letters he realizes NOTHING HAS CHANGED! He is doing what he must have before because this is how the crime scene looked when she dies and the boat blows up! He realizes he has been here and failed and figures out what I am telling you now. He knows the fridge message wasnt from a first time travel try; it was from at least a second try! Putting 2 and 2 together he realizes he has to do something different or the girl was still going to die!!! He changes his plan, brings the girl with him. The killer doesnt find and kill the girl, thus he doesnt get tipped off that Denzel is still alive and trying to defuse the bomb. However, he does see the bronco at the docks, goes on the boat to ensure the bomb goes off, and as we all saw on the big screen the plan is finally foiled.

I've got two movies showing up in HD-DVD tomorrow, Hot Fuzz and 300, that I'm really looking forward to Pretty cool, if you send a movie back on Friday or Saturday, and they check it in on Monday, a new release (which would be available in stores on Tuesday) will show up in your mailbox on Tuesday. Shooter comes out tomorrow in HD too but it'll probably shoot up to long wait by the time I get my next movie checked in.

300 is about the romans stand against the persians correct? my history might be a lil off.. I remember reading/hearing about how persian spys infiltrated the roman camp and observed them getting oil baths and combing their hair, which means they are preparing themselves for death.

Yes, it's based on the roman stand, however it's quite obviously sensationalized. It's actually pulled from the graphic novel by Frank Miller. The fun part is that it's OBVIOUSLY sensationalized so I think most people just see it as a fun action movie rather than something that has any significant historical relevance. Since few know about the background, most people simply enjoy the movie.... and it's VERY enjoyable. You would think the brutal action scenes would get old but they don't. When we were watching it, I couldn't believe that the girls we brought loved it so much. It was senseless action and violence, but I think they liked it more than we all did. I kept waiting for one of them to say "it was too brutal" blah blah.

I loved it precisely because it was so sensationalized. I'm not usually one for CGI either, but everything was pretty much CGI, even the bodies on the guys. The cool thing is though that because of the way it was shot and the Sin City-esque color scheme, you can't tell. Plus the Persian army was TOTALLY over the top. It was fabulous. My favorite character is Leonidas's wife- the queen. She was KICK ASS!

I'm not 100% sure on the history in all honesty. The Persians are based in the Iran area and the religious ties are all over the place... Turkish/Egyptian/Jewish... so who knows. The movie would seem to confirm that the Persians had influence from all over the board. The other side of the story was the Greeks, not Romans. I think Greeks were Chrisitan influenced... the movie certainly would have you believe that they were Christian-minded at least. Like I said, I think this movie is best just watched and enjoyed. I think it's too loosely tied to history to think too much about it. I'm sure Frank Miller, the original author of the graphic novel had his biases, as did the producers/makes of the movie. Anytime movies start to get religion-based, even roughly, it becomes controversial... this movie is just too damn awesome to be ruined by theory...........
