Last night before going to bed, things were not looking good for this trip. 80% chance of rain here in the metro area. I woke up about 7:30 to the Sasha Monster licking my face because I was late with her breakfast, so I got up and checked the weather. Huge rain front moving in. I decided to just toss some clothes and and go, I loaded everything up last night. It was 105 miles from my door to the trail head, 80 of it in I-35, so it wasn't a long drive at all.
I didn't get to venture too far on many of the trails because I didn't want to be 10+ miles from my truck and have anything happen, but this place kicks ass! Why in gods name we haven't ridden here before is beyond me. There are trails EVERYWHERE, on the way in, all you see are trail heads and crossings all over!
There is something here for everybody, from wide open sections to technical turns, to very tight woods trails that are 2nd gear at the most, to 5th gear WFO fire roads. The riding is more technical than Danbury, much of the trails are loose sand/gravel but have a firm hardpack base. I ran across very few rocky sections like most of Chengwatonna is. I would have to say my favorite trail I took was the Continental Divide trail, there are several sections with 3rd gear WFO 180 degree switchback turns that are totally loamy and sandy, basically let the back end hang out and hold the throttle to the stop. Way fun, I did the trail 3 times while I was there.
The other thing I noticed, is this area is totally undisturbed. No logging, no trucks, nothing. Most of the time when I stopped and shut the YFZ off, all I could hear was the forest. It was awesome. Finally the rain caught up to me after I had been riding about 4 hours, and I was almost out of gas. Good time to call it a day anyways

Anyways, must go back! Here's the pics.
