Pretty cool news.  I liked the first book that lead to LOTR quite a bit and glad to see a movie is now finally in the works.

Too bad it is in the early stages and won't be out for another 3 years or so.

I wonder whos gonna be in it. Should be pretty cool!

It's going to take them to long to make it. I wonder if I can reserve my seats now?

Thats what I don't get.  I imagine they're going to make the hobbit into two movies which would be cool.  They probably wouldn't be 3 hours long like the trilogy ones are but they could easy get two two-hour movies out of the hobbit.  Don't know if you read it, but its a much easier read than LOTR.

I started reading it, got almost to the end, then lost interest. I should give it another try though, because I liked it most of the way through. I liked the LOTR movies a lot, just not the books.

some more details..

http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/01/11/elijah-wood-confirms-dual-hobbit-movie-details/

Looks like the first movie is going to be The Hobbit and the second is going to be a new story.  That worries me a little.  It also sucks that Peter Jackson isn't directing the films either.  I'm still very much looking forward to these movies but they're quite a ways off.
