I read an article the other week about Amazon's MP3 store going DRM-free but thought it wasn't going to happen for awhile.  I was wrong.  I have been looking for a way to buy drm-free digital music because the idea of buying a CD just seems stupid to me.

I don't like stealing music before but did that because it was the easiest.  With downloaded songs, I find you don't care about them as much and don't even end up listening to them most of the time.  I think I'm going to buy Dream Theater's latest album to test out the whole process.  Back when I first got my car/truck whatever and I bought CDs, I was way more into music.

They're 256kbps tracks too which is nice.  Pretty sure Itunes is only 128 (and DRM, of course).

how many labels have signed on though?  I know a lot of them won't release DRM free music yet.  I would be much more apt to actually buy them if they were DRM free and I didn't have to worry about what they would play on.  Getting them that way, you're much more assured of good quality as well.

Ask and you shall receive because thats exactly what the amazon MP3 store is.

As far as labels, apparently they have the 4 big labels, whoever they are.  Song BMG apparently just joined.

yeh, eff this DRM crap... I like my mac, but the itunes and ipod was really frustrating when I wanted to have my music collection on both my home computer and laptop.  Is it a buck a song?

On a different note, I came across my Ipod Shuffle I bought a while ago and I was like...hmm I have a mini-jack adapter in my truck for my laptop... this would work.  So I put some music on and sure enough it sounds pretty good.  Its only a gig, but will do in a pinch.

And maybe what you're thinking of is that some labels don't want to release DRM-free music on Itunes yet because it looks like everyone is supporting Amazon.

hell yeah

Everything I've seen is $0.99.  Supposedly some songs are less and some are more.  Albums are between $6 and $10, I read.

One caveat, you can only download the songs once.  I was wondering if I would be able to download them more than once if my hard drive or ipod crashed but you can't.  I sync from a few different computers so I am bad at keeping everything in one location.

thats why I took an old dimension from work that had a dead hard drive, bought 2 500GB sata drives, and set them up in a raid 1.  Cheap redundant file storage
