This is why The Ventures are in the Rock & Roll HOF!! Like one of the commenters said, I would have loved to be there in '65. Music doesn't need lyrics when you can play like that

that is a cool video. Does anyone know when the mark in time was when electric guitar really came into music?

I just now read this-- went to the rock and roll hall of fame this weekend for The Doors exhibit (WELL worth it) and they changed some stuff around. They have a time line about Les Paul and how he was one of the pioneers of solid-body electric guitars. It's actually really neat to read about and has his earlier models- one was made out of a piece of a railroad track, gaskets, and guitar strings, then one he made out of some 2x4's, a door hinge and guitar strings (called it "the plank"), Then one he made out of "the plank" and 2 halves of an acoustic guitar he called "the Log" and actually used on one of the records he recorded with his wife (They were a duet and recorded many albums). He was a really interesting person, actually and it goes into his childhood and his early days singing as a kid (he had perfect pitch- not many people do), his first Gibson guitar, then his singing career with his wife, and it has a bunch of other things he invented or innovated- microphones, amps, etc. It also talks about how he was trying to pitch his solid-body guitar idea to Gibson and they wouldn't listen until Fender started making one and tried to recruit him. He told Gibson he was going to go to Fender unless they made him an offer. The rest is history.

that is pretty cool.  Imagine todays music without the electric guitar.

the SRV videos were good, but for some reason i just cant get into his stuff. Maybe its too bluesy for me or something    i do remember when Pete, you took over driving after Whiskey Creek and i felt like i was going to go into a coma in the backseat of the SS, you put on some SRV, and while i was half conscious laying on the speaker i did hear some pretty good stuff, but before i could really enjoy it i was dead asleep already

i was looking around on Amazon this morning, we are painfully slow here at work lately, i ordered the Live 8 DVD, mainly for the 5 Pink Floyd songs that they shortly reunited for and had all the original guys playing, but also theres a lot of other good bands on there. Also a lot of TERRIBLE ones, ex. Will Smith and DJ Jazzy whatever  Vomit, needless to say i wont be watching this thing the whole thing through, but theres a lot of good stuff there. A lot of Beatles stuff, few Elton John, Sting doing Police songs, ect.

I bought an Outlaws Live CD too, supposed to be better then their studio recordings

I bought a new 5 disc cd changer for at home, a nice Sony Super CD one.  I'm quickly realizing that cd quality music > mp3s   yes I can really tell a difference in a lot of the mp3s I have.  Some of it is the output from the mp3 player or laptop, some of it is just the quality of the rip.  I had a copy of GNR Use Your Illusion I and II that sound pretty decent though.

I need to burn some PF discs to try out on it.

I love .flac but finding non-mainstream artists music encoded in it is very difficult.

CD quality is definitely better then MP3 in most cases. I also found a huge improvement when switching to Amazons MP3s, they are much higher quality then ITunes, but i know you guys dont buy MP3s. Also, when i found that my IPod has EQ controls built into it and adjusted them, made a big difference. I have to have it on different settings between Ole Blue, the SS, Logitech speakers, and headphones for it to sound good. I also have to say that my Ipod is one of the best gifts i have ever got, cant imagine not having it and going back to CD's only. The playlists alone are worth having it for. But playing straight from the CD still cant be beat for quality. Most songs i dont miss it, but some where its the exact clarity of an instrument or the exact pitch of a singers voice that makes the song, i miss it

Yeah I tried the usual torrent search, went to local stores etc, got home and said F it and just did it with Amazon. I think it was like 10 bux. Money well spent for an obscure and hard to find CD!!

i watched one of the disks from the Live8 video i bought, the video quality and audio are quite good. I only watched the Who and Pink Floyd so far, Pink Floyd was great in it. They definitely have no problem playing all their stuff 100%. I have another video that is Pink Floyd with David Gilmore and then one of Roger Waters on his own, was really cool to see them together on this. I think the story of their band and all is one of the best, they really seem like stand up guys. The fact that they still talk about Sid Barrett, who left them before they really even made it since he couldnt take the pressure of fame and had a breakdown, and still pay royalties to him for every song he contributed to says a lot. Its obvious they miss him too, especially since he died, obviously thats who they wrote Wish You Were Here and Shine on you Crazy Diamond.

I also find it ironic how everyone thinks Pink Floyd=all drug music when they are so far from it, and one of the VERY few bands from that era that didnt have any band member OD or die a weird death or anything

The Who was suprisingly good, but with a lot of their songs they sound great in the beginning, but then they repeat WAY too much and i get bored by the end of the song

The Who and PF are great bands.  I prefer PF myself, but Pete definitely gets it done too.  Him and Roger are SO different its amazing they haven't killed each other yet

Pete Townsend definitely gets into his music, and he loves his windmills

i liked the few songs they did, they definitely put on a good show. I dont care for their early stuff at all, they sound EXACTLY like the Beatles, but their later stuff has been growing on me. Eminence Front is one of my favorite songs now, good bass rythyms

The Who's bassist John Entwistle basically revolutionized the bass guitar.. It was a fairly new instrument when he first picked it up and he took it to a whole new level...They mentioned this on that VH1 rock honors show...Pretty neat
