my build actually started last fall in August when i got a used head off of ebay , the head was taken to RHC
to have +1 intake valves put in ,not long after that i found a used Athena 434 jug ,took that to RHC and Ron sent it in to have it bored and coated  up to a 450 cc using a JE piston 13:1 .
then i started looking for a different set of cam's and found a set of old style hot cam's and a set of DRZ 400e cam's .
it was in march before i finally got it back from RHC  , only got it then because i had called Ron in February and told him not to do any thing because i had been layed off and did not now have any money to pay for it , he then called me back and said he would have in done in a week . and that i did not have to pay for it till i could .(i did)

first i put in the old style hot cam intake and the old style exhaust  but i felt the old style exhaust not having a decompresser made the engine roll over way to  hard  so i opted to go with the drz exhaust which has a little more lift than does the new style hot cam exhaust and does have decompresser, so far i think that was a good move on my part.

had it together for about 2 weeks and Ron called me and asked if i would like a new pipe for it , my first thought was whats the catch , but what it was ,was Tim Barker was looking for a ltz450 to do a pipe build ,and if he could use my quad then i would get a pipe ,FREE .
took it to him the next day ,3 weeks later i got it back
put it on a dyno and pulled 46 hp and 33 tq , last year it was 40hp and 28 tq
then i foud a +4 swingarm and with 8 paddle extreams 20 10 8 's  lol i have to work at getting the wheels off the sand.

it runs rather well ,been to SL twice and did kick some butt, even got brad once (but he wont admit it)

just put on a new intake boot, have not yet tired it at SL yet

the boot is about 9'' long , the adapter is a short piece of 3'' muffler pipe

sounds like a fairly radical Z400 build.  Are you still going to trail ride it at Hatfield and what not?

i may of gone off the deep end ......its now a 484 ! +5 bore and +5 stroke
i just could not resist   now i wish I'd of done this be for the St A's trip.
ordered a rear lowering link ,after doing the +4 swing arm it sat way to high and chain was rubbing hard on the swing arm .
oh  and a steering dampener ,i was running up choke and got a terrible shimmy,
it was all most scary and there was nothing i could do about it, hopefully that wont happen again.
