Looking for a good deal on a Windows machine. Reliability is the most important factor. Will be running word, excel, outlook and similar business apps. 14"-15" screen is probably what I would be wanting.
Around $500, less is better, but a good deal always intrigues me!

Ok will do. Yeh that D600 wasn't worth putting money into, hinges loose, battery shot, etc.

yea, for $650 you can get a new E6400 instead of wasting money on something used and old.

Looks like Thinkpads, Acer and Toshibas are all in that price range too. I know Lenovo has a great biz rep; is Dell still the choice?

Lenovo's and HP's are solid too. I just prefer Dell because when you get their Pro Support, you get to talk to American's when you call, and the issue is almost always resolved the next day. Worth the $175 IMO

Lenovo has the worst support in the world in my experience.

E6400s are pretty damn expensive, at least for us. I think our current quote is about $1080, somewhere around there. Like Pete said though, out of all the manufacturers I've dealt with, Dell warranties are great (especially when you are Dell certified and don't have to call for parts!). I haven't had to call them for a single part since last October. Love it.

How often do you guys have to deal with support? I can't remember every calling a computer manufacturer for support. And I only had to send one laptop in and that was Des' Ibook and that was out of warranty. Just curious what issues you guys are seeing.

Too often with lenovo, and their website sucks for downloading drivers and what not.

well when you have 250+ Dell notebooks in use in your company, you have to deal with support a bit. Usually it's just over hard drive failures though. You can get an E6400 from Dell Outlet for $649 and they are every bit as good as a new one (with warranty etc), if it's not, Dell will fix or replace it.

Like Pete said, when dealing with volume with any company, you'll get to know their support team well. We have over 1600 desktops and laptops combined so not having to deal with Ahbeeb or anyone over the phone is essential for us.
Not too many issues with D600s for us. They have been solid but are discontinued now. Running a few E6400 and E5600s (the replacements) now and they seem good.
