Sam and I packed up and drove up to Banning (a little over an hour and 15 mins from my house).  We got there around 6pm, and setup camp.  Low temps were forecast to be around 25 degrees, so we came prepared with a huge pile of blankets and sleeping bags.

By midnight, I didn't regret bringing a single one of them, as I was nice and toasty and sleeping.  I woke up once during the night to use the bathroom, and remembered why I like getting away from the city....the stars are amazing looking.

We woke up Saturday morning and made some breakfast (my truck said 32F), but it wasn't too bad because there wasn't much for wind.   I packed up my new pack with my camera stuff, snacks, drinks, extra socks etc, and we headed out for some hiking about 9:00am.  We hiked south to Wolf Creek Falls, and after taking some pics etc, turned around and went back to camp along a different trail.  After a quick lunchables lunch (not bad, I remember them being small and sucky), we headed back out along the quarry loop trail, which basically runs right along the Kettle River, and passes by the ruins of old Banning, which was a small town focused on mining sandstone from the local area.  By 5pm Sam was out of gas, and my legs were pretty sore too, so we headed back to camp to finish loading up, and then headed home.  Very nice state park, I would go there again for sure.  My only complaint was the campgrounds were kind of near the highway so you could hear some road traffic.  Anyways, here's the pics.

1. on top of the Wolf Cree Falls there were lots of carvings.  This one and one from 1917 were the oldest I saw
2. looking up the stream from the falls.
3. this was the head of the 2+ mile stretch of rapids in the AM.  I actually took this pic with my Canon pocket cam
4. inside the abandoned powerhouse structure
5. Kettle River rapids
6. more gnarly rapids.  Looks like it would certainly be a wild ride in a canoe or kayak

it showed in the file size too.  It was over 600kb at 85% quality, so I had to compress it to 70% (and shows it now).  The forum is limited to 500kb per attachment.

yea, looking at these on my calibrated EIPS monitor at work, they are heavily compressed.  Probably a little over saturated too....guess I should pickup one of these Dell 2209WA LCD's for at home!
