bit the bullet and bought the new Thunderbolt 4g. it was either that or the iphone, and i really like the android system so i stuck with that. reviews on the thunderbolt seem good, main complaint is the battery life, so i will have to watch the apps and kill the ones that run consistently. Im going to miss having the keyboard, and Ive tried training myself on the Droid2 to use the touchscreen one while I still have it. We shall see!

How were you able to get a new phone so soon since your Droid 2 was an upgrade?

How much you pay for the Thunderbolt?  Amazon wireless is selling them for $175, kinda tempting.  My contract expired yesterday and my Droid has been driving me nuts for awhile, need a new phone bad (volume down button busted, slow as hell, frustrating in general).  I kinda wanna wait though, cause haven't heard the best about the Thunderbolt.  Seems like it was rushed to market to be the first 4G phone.  To me, its a barely updated Evo and that phone came out a year ago.  The Samsung Droid Charge just came out and its supposed to be better than the Thunderbolt, its selling for $250 though.  I might hold out and wait for the Droid Bionic.

I'm also tempted to root it and throw a custom 2.3 rom on it, might get a few more months out of it that way.

Clint runs a rooted Droid with a custom rom, and loves it.  You can even over clock that phone if it's too slow for you.

Finally hit my breaking point over the weekend.  I'm now rooted and running Gingerbread on my phone, 2.3.3.  Name of the rom is Bugless Beast and its amazing how much better this runs than Froyo.  Overclocked processor to 800mhz (don't want to go too crazy) and made a few other performance tweaks, can't believe the difference.  Hopefully it holds up over time.

Was an interesting experience, and definitely a few 'oh shit' moments where I thought I'd bricked my phone.  Definitely worth it.  If my phone keeps performing the way it is now, I could hold out for a while longer until the Bionic or Galaxy S II comes to Verizon.

I figured you would like the overclock and custom rom.  Clint has been running his that way for a couple years without any issues (except he keeps trying out new roms all the time heh)

Yeah, I'm really happy with this current ROM so not too inclined to try any other ROMs out at the moment.  There are a shit ton of 'em out there.  Blows my mind what some people are able to do.  I felt accomplished that I was just able to root and flash the thing.  What about the guy that compiled the whole Gingerbread ROM from scratch?!  I could never be as smart as that guy if I studied it for the rest of my life.

I finally am to the point I'm ready to try a custom ROM on my Incredible.  I had to take the phone apart today and replace a blown out speaker which took care of the warranty, so why not.  I loaded up MIUI which is built on the latest Gingerbread kernel, seems really nice so far, I'm excited to see if it helps battery life at all.

I finally broke down and bought a new phone about a month ago.  So far I'm pretty happy with it.  I'm with ATT, so I picked up an unlocked T-Mobile Motorola Defy.  I haven't done much with it so far, but It seems pretty nice.
