Decided it was time....

run of the mill HTPC ATX case
modular 550w psu
E6300 c2d cpu
Asus P5K deluxe/wifi
retail hsf
older 7200rpm seagate 320gb drive
6gb ram
Geforce 9400 w/ hdmi out
pair of logitech wireless controllers
win7 ultimate x64

Plays all of the emulators flawlessly, so far I've got NES, SNES, Genesis & N64 its badass going oldschool on the 56". N64 stuff gets props, the graphics look great. Also been downloading quite a few movies via torrents.

Also picked up an Asus home server with the little atom cpu and loaded it up with a couple 640gb WD blacks for network storage, I've got a pair of 80gb notebook drives I was thinking about putting in the HTPC and ditching the seagate. I did gigabit through the house and have it all running through an 8 port Dell poweredge switch, DD-WRT router and a DD-WRT equipped repeater I'm using just to say FU to m$ on the xbox

If this were a new build I would be using SSDs, after using them I never want to go back

Nice, load hulu's new desktop player on it and boxee as well.  Im ready to build an HTPC so I can stop paying comcast $130 a month.   Vomit  Combining those two with netflix instant play will give me more than enough shit to watch on tv.

I need to get some of those wireless controllers for mine.  Care to list your collection of ROMs?  Maybe we could do some trading.

We should start playing Tecmo Bowl online again.  NES ROM DESTROYED

Sure, I'll list them tonight. We should download a PC car driving game or something to mess around with this winter too..I really liked NHL 09 on xbox but mine is screwed so I'm thinking about going back to PC

I'm debating on getting a tv tuner, I need to read more and see if it will allow me to completely eliminate my charter box and still give me VOD services and my HD channels.

I've been using hulu quite a bit, I'll download those recommendations tonight Jer.

Another thing to purchase would be a blu-ray player but thats a ways down the road.

Since were on the subject of tech shiz this is one of the coolest things I've purchased lately

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200155&cm_re=sata_to_usb_adapter-_-12-200-155-_-Product

Used it to take some data off of an old IDE drive. Worked awesome, paid for itself first use.

Ive read several articles about ditching the cable box and going strictly PC.  The biggest complaint was live sports.  If you dont care about sports, no biggie.  However, you can use channelsurfing.net or they have some tuners you can buy to get the sports fix you need for sports that are not shown on your local stations that you get OTA.

Hulu and Boxee are nice.  I just hopped on Hulu and watched the Peanuts Christmas Special (gotta watch those once a year)

The limitation is that hulu, boxee, etc dont stream live sports on ESPN, etc.  If its on CBS, NBC, or FOX you are fine though.  I believe you can pay for a subscription with ESPN though.

I popped in the Geforce 9400 last night, hooked to the SPDIF on my mobo. No problem with passing audio via HDMI, but I noticed at 1920x1080 the screen was stretched and there was nothing I could do with the nvidia desktop resize tool etc. On VGA thru my old 8600 GT I could display 1920x1080 no problem, no stretch everything fit. So I hit up google and there is something with DLP televisions with the HDMI that causes the issue. Dropped the rez down to 1768x922 or something and its working flawlessly. Most emulators and stuff support this resolution so all in all it wasn't a bad deal. Kinda bummed I can't rep the 1920x1080 but whatever, it works.

Windows home server is pretty badass..I've got the supplied 500gb drive and I added a 640gb WD black which taxed the internal storage.. I've got 6 usb ports and 2 e-sata ports though, picked up a nifty enclosure for my other 640 and have that hooked up now running off of the e-sata for backup purposes
I was thinking I would have to configure which shares went to the drives and what not but WHS does some sort of software raid and combined my drives automatically.
