im canceling for all the reasons they are stating, exactly right. I'm very guilty of just watching some shit show that i dont really even want to watch anyways most of the time, so i dont feel im going to be missing anything. Also XM has spoiled me with no commercials, i wont miss stupid mind numbing TV commercials either. Cant wait to get this thing going, should put order in tomorrow
went and looked at hulu, they have pretty much anything i would want to watch

Yeah I see its a triple core 95W but what the hell...not all of us can be green IT members Get a nice case so heat isn't an issue. I'd go full ATX just to have the extra heat dissipation

What format are you guys watching these movies in? Ive been ripping my DVDs to mp4 and they are good quality, especially for being 500-700MB.

I've been downloading 720p stuff in .mkvs, otherwise they are assorted mpg, wmv, avi etc.

Build went very well yesterday (except for when I accidentally left the plastic cover on the heatsink, whoops!). I really like that Apevia case a lot, even came with 2 system fans (which are all dead quiet). Loaded up Windows 7 and it runs great.
Thanks for that motherboard recommendation, Erik. I was very happy when I saw it has optical out. HDMI and everything worked flawlessly.
Ben has a ridiculous internet connection, gets 4-5mbps easily. Netflix instant loads up in no time and looks just as good as DVDs on his TV to me. Then again, I only get around 2-3 and it's quite impressive on my 61" too. I don't know how Netflix does it, they must have some amazing compression.
What torrent sites are you guys using currently? Running anything other than PeerGuardian for protection? For some reason, it seems like it always has problems updating a lot of the lists (always an error connecting to URL message).
One nagging problem. His TV is running at 1280x720 at the moment (not a 1080p) TV, and we increased the font size to 150%. For some reason, a lot of the windows aren't sized correctly. For example, if I bring up preferences for firefox or utorrent, half the window is off the screen.

the 720 vertical resolution is tough. I had issues in both linux and windows with that, so I just went to full 1920x1080 and dealt with stuff being small.

I'm typing this right now on the new HTPC, i love it so far, im glad i went this route over just a netflix enabled BD player, was well worth the extra money. I can bring stuff up on Netflix or where ever and it takes just as long to bring up as it did stuff on the DVR. Also Danny got me started on Pandora, i love it
Went and turned in the DVR today and canceled cable. They raised my internet rate $10 because of it, but oh well. My monthly bill went from $120 down to $50. I think this will be a welcome change, already by now if i still was watching cable i would have wasted at least an hour watching something i didnt really care about. At least if i am going to lay on the couch and do nothing, i can watch something i really want to watch, not just the least crappiest thing on

After having it a week, i see no reason to go back to cable as long as i have an internet connection, has been way better then cable. 95% of what ive watched this week has been streamed off Netflix. Im a huge fan of Pandora too, use it a lot Time Warner didnt waste any time blocking my cable signal, in 2 days they came out and put the filter on the pole for my line, i was surprised
