Does anyone here have any knowledge of printers now days?
I've been looking at printers lately, I'm sick of sharing the one that's available in the office where I'm working right now. as its wired to the server and one other computer, so i have to have the newest and busiest guy scan pages for me, then e-mail them to me and hope I can stay connected to the VPN to receive them. the only stores I've found to look at them is "not so best buy" and "office teapot" either place is like going to ace hardware... the workers there can look at the tags you already looked at and tell you what they say, which you already know, since you already read them. Anyway, I was looking at some Brother laser printers (B&W) but am not really decided on what I want. I really think I want a wireless unit, such as this...
http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/385025/Brother-MFC-7840W-Monochrome-Laser-Flatbed/Its almost the same as the one we have at the office, but has the wireless I'm looking for, although I'm sure there was one just like it at the store on sale for 179 or 199, not 299. It may have been a version without fax capability, which is fine by me, as I don't even have a phone line to get faxes with.
Laser used to be the way to go, with toners lasting much longer and printing faster than ink-jets, but now I see lots of ink-jets claiming to be just as fast or faster, just as many prints per cartridge, and cheaper ink cartridges than toners. they also have the advantage that they are pretty much all color, although that's not really a feature i need or care about.
Are "Brother" brand units still good stuff? Are other brands better? Is laser better than ink?
