I borrowed my Dad's Stihl 026 chainsaw last weekend, and while it did the job, it was seriously sick.  It wouldn't idle, and to start it cold, you had to take a small squirt bottle, and squirt gas down the muffler and into the exhaust port.  It was also hard to re-start.

I took the thing apart last night...and wow.  Air filter caked with saw dust, and once I tore into the carb, I found the below.  I picked up a carb rebuild kit from the Stihl dealer for less than $9, and rebuilt the carb, and it runs like a dream now.  Maintenance is important!!

Very nice! I see it a lot where people take off the fuel filter thats on the end of the line in the gas tank and never replace it, and then that happens. I hate those little 2 stroke diaphram carbs, unless it's the older ones that still have high and low adjustments. Fixed ones blow ass

luckily this saw is a mid 90's Stihl, still has the idle, H, and L adjustments.  I actually just bought a similar saw used, has the same exact carb on it.

anything from the last 5 years I have ran across has the fixed jets. Sucks because there's no adjusting it for the weather or anything, your lucky if it runs right

speaking of..what the FUCK is with new gas cans?  I bought a small 1.25 gallon one for the saw last night, and it has this stupid ass flapper lock, pressure activated spout on it.  I took it back, and all of the cans are like that?  I asked the guy and he says they've been like that for over a year due to new EPA mandates.  Fuck you EPA, fuck you.

yeah, the non adjustable carbs and ventless gas cans are both EPA things. Keep an eye out when you're out of state, some states still sell the regular vented gas cans. Or can use the race fuel cans
