So rather than keep bothering Pete I figured I would post this and get everyone's opinion.

We are moving the company to a new place and I need to figure out how to setup the network now that we have a T1 line.  Here the deal so far.

- T1 line just installed through Megapath (THANKS PETE!)
- Samsung Ubigate IBG1000 modem/gateway from Megapath setup with 5 public IP addresses.
- New building has a patch panel with CAT 5 feeding all offices
- We will have 4 computers and 4 Cisco VOIP phones on the network. VOIP phones are a hosted solution so they should work with any internet connection.
- We will have at least one wireless access point.
- I will not be sharing files between computers (Have dropbox)
- I will not be running a server
- No VPN

My questions are:

1) Should I run a firewall (Prob yes, but do I NEED to run a firewall?) If so then which one?  Pete suggested a Fortigate 30b, I think, but it is $$$ when you buy it with "services"
2) Pete told me to order a good switch, so I ordered a Dell Powerconnect 2816.
3) Do I need anything else?

At our current office we have been using a $30 Netgear wireless router with 4 port switch on a business DSL connection. I realize I should upgrade some gear and make it more secure, but I don't know just how far to take it.

Any help would be appreciated.  I need walked through how you would do it if you were running the show.  I know there are a ton of options but I am not educated enough to weigh in on what would be best.

Thanks!
-Josh

I would use your cheap NetGear firewall/router until you can afford a better one (or until it dies).  Make sure the firmware is updated to mitigate any possible attacks on the device.

Pete, I just emailed you this but check out the brochure for our modem.  Looks like it includes some firewall feature as well as a router built in?

Could I get up and running with this and the switch?  Then if I decide to get a dedicated firewall in the future I always could?

Just click the brochure link.

if you can log into the admin part of it (and set up your own rules and forwards etc) you should be set.
