Having issues with Outlook on my laptop. Will start to open, gets the banner "Outlook" blah blah, licenesed to Blah blah, product code" Then just hangs for about a minute. Then I get the nifty MS error report request (do you want to send this error to MS, blah blah).
Tried deleting the toolbar file per pchell.com- no help Tried a system restore to two weeks ago- no help Tried all the latest updates and patches from MS- no help Disabled McAfee- no help
Its a Dell so I dont have an Office CD to try a reinstall with.
My .pst file is 81,300KB but I thought it could be up to 20GB with 2003
Can I save the .pst file to disk and then reinstall Office (I do have a 2000 office CD) and swap in the previous .pst file????

could try installing outlook on another machine, and verifying if your .PST file will import correctly.

Yes, you can save it and then reimport it. The outlook import/export tools (in the File) menu allow pretty good importing/exporting from "Personal folder files (.pst)". Don't forget to check the "include subfolders/subdirectories" box if you do any exports... I'd create a second profile with all your account information, than import the data from the first .pst.
If you find that the .pst is in fact corrupted...
1) Make a backup copy of it first. 2) use the "scanpst" tool in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 on the .pst file.
Its a good tool but has the tendency to truncate (e.g., delete) stuff that is screwed up.
A lot of times when Outlook crashes & burns its because of an add-in thats gone nutty. OL2003 should be able to start in its own dumb "Safe Mode" and disable all those add-ins so you can fix on whatever you need to.

I havent tried the scanpst tool yet. Will try that tomorrow and see how it goes. If that doesnt work- will try your tip of another profile and loading it that way.
Thank you!!!!!!!

Plan B???
I also realized its Outlook 2k not 2003
I ran the scanpst tool- said everything was hunky dory....
So I uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs.
I dont think it is removing the program fully....On the Outlook banner that comes up when Outlook comes up it still says This product licensed to dw- the last reinstall I changed that to TEST.
So Plan B???

Try opening another Office app, like Word or similar, and running the "Detect and Repair" from the Help menu. It will likely ask for the Office installation CD, just an FYI. Sometimes Detect and Repair will find modified files that shouldn't have been, etc.

Plan B: uninstall app, delete its directory from c:/Program Files/ where it may be.
Open regedit, search for Outlook, and nuke away (can be scary, but use common sense)
reinstall.

Back up your registry first.

Most apps retain their registration information in the registry, and many (Office included) retain information about user settings and such. First, see if you can start Outlook in safe mode. Start -> Run -> Type "Outlook.exe /safe" into the box, minus the quotes, and click OK. (see image below) Let us know if that works - if so, I bet there's an add-in that went haywire and is crashing the application. If that fails to work, I'd definitely run the Detect and Repair (run it from any MS Office app, from the "Help" menu) before doing anything in the registry. It may ask for the install cd when you run that.

OK I hacked around in the registry and I think I MAY have deleted something I shouldnt have.....It wont boot up now- so I am having to use the wife's laptop.....What should I do????
OK Just kidding. It will boot up just fine in Safe mode, but not otherwise. Everything is there(folders, emails) when I boot in Safe mode.
Where from here???
