When I first started my job I took off almost 2 weeks within a month but that was for a different reason, moms open heart. I can see where CBerg is leary about taking off so much. You want to show them that you are a hard worker not just a lazy kid. We will miss you though CBerg!

Heh... you should come work for the University. I switched jobs, told them i was going to need some time off in the upcoming weeks due to buying a house, they're like "cool, whatever works..."

Chris, I totally understand where you're coming from. I get three weeks this year for vacation and they are all already planned. If i took off another week for Oklahoma it would be unpaid and I cannot afford that. I know mine is for a different reason, but even though I bust my ass for this place and I'm good at what I do, she hates when people take too much time off and I'd be hearing about it. I wish I could go, but as it looks I don't think I'll be able to. If its just a couple days, it should be no problem, because two unpaid days is better than five, but I don't want to be hearing all the time "Jen, you've been taking a lot of time off" which I will. constantly.

In my experiences it is very apparent that blue collar and white collar office jobs are very different when it comes to this stuff. Offices have to be so PC to the extreme that they're afraid that someone might be offended or lose it if they don't get their time off. In blue collar, or labor or shop situations all that crap hasn't really made it there yet and it's still whatever your boss wants

I'm sure there's exceptions to every rule. I'm overgeneralizing this a lot, merely an observation. My work sounds similar to chris's work that they won't say something to your face but you know that when someone else did it last month things were said while they were gone. And also he doesn't want to shit on them. But on the other hand i agree with jeremy that it seems like you've proved yourself

There is no set number of vacation, sick, or personal time at my job but if we need time off its usually not a problem, however we know when to ask.  I have never really taken time off for fun when there was someone else out or during our busy months.

I am sure if I drew a line in the sand I could go to Idaho, but they wouldn't be happy because the secretary is off that week.  Sometimes though I think I overanalyze because you just can't assume that it is gonna piss them off and then be bitter at your boss when you didn't even ask.  Because of that if I should probably still ask....

hmmm... sounds like a good idea. That dune sport could use some real dunes. At least if you ask and they say no or convince you not to go they might feel guilty and make it up some way or not fight you the next time. {LS}

I havent asked for the time off yet.  And its more like 60+ hours a week unless I have the pager, but yes I do know what you mean by proving that Im not lazy during the week.   its more of like what JMann said, kinda know when to ask for time off.  I have already gotten shit as in, like "Jeesus take some more time of CBizkit", ( what they call me there).  So taking that, its kinda like, ok I have had a bit more vacation lately than some people that have worked here longer than me.  Also, the guy who owns the place is my friends dad, so its not like its some boss that if I piss him off oh well.  I also want to take time of in the winter too, and thats not too far after sept.  I didnt go last september, I dont know why its such a problem now.  But whatever, if i go, i go.  If I dont well then Ill try and go the next year, might have to skip the spring SL trip or something, i dunno.  I dont like pushing my boss i guess because I dont need to loose my job.  I loose that, I loose everything....

Eh, I get 10 days of vacation and three personal days a year (this August I think I get 2 or three extra..).  I always use them up.  I can't believe some of you lucky bastards aren't even given a number.

we have a set number, but they're flexible on how/when you use them.  Banks get rediculous amounts of BS days off.
