General Silver Lake Rules and Info

Disclaimer: This is by no means a full listing of rules, just a general listing of things you will need to know before visiting Silver Lake.

* Spark Arrestors of some sort are required on everything entering the dunes. If you own an ATV or dirt bike, don't try to stick screen door mesh or some other sort of mesh into your pipe, the DNR has been trained to spot such attempts, and most of the time I have seen them fail

* Whips must be 10 feet tall and on every vehicle entering the dunes.

* Sound level testing is usually not done on weekdays, only on weekends and holidays. Current limit is 94db, the DNR will let you ride at 98db due to equipment variances.

* Fees vary if you're a Michigan resident or not. Every vehicle entering the parking lot must have a valid Michigan State Park Sticker. These cost $16.25 for everyone. Every vehicle entering the dunes must have a valid ORV sticker, these are available as either a daily pass, or a yearly pass. For Michigan residents, daily passes cost $6, yearly passes $24. For non-Michigan residents, a daily pass is $8 and a yearly pass $29.

* Dune vouchers are used from mid-May until Labor day for access to the dunes on weekends and holidays. The vouchers are FREE, more information on the voucher system, or anyone wishing more detailed rules, can be found on the MICHIGAN DNRs website.
